Privacy Policy for ScribbleMate

This Privacy Policy describes how ScribbleMate ("We", "Us", "Our") handles your information when you use our application. By using ScribbleMate, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. What is ScribbleMate?

ScribbleMate is a floating overlay drawing app. It lets you sketch, highlight, and annotate on top of any other app on your screen, save those drawings as boards, and optionally capture a screenshot of your annotation. Everything you create is stored entirely on your device. There is no account, no login, and no cloud — your boards never leave your phone unless you choose to share them.

2. Summary

No account required. You can use ScribbleMate without registering or providing any personal information.
We cannot see your screen. ScribbleMate draws on top of other apps; it does not read, record, or transmit what is underneath the overlay.
Your boards stay on your device. Drawings, boards, thumbnails, and settings are stored only in ScribbleMate's private storage on your phone.
We do not run servers that hold your data. We have no technical ability to read your boards.
The only data that leaves your device is collected by Google AdMob to display advertisements to free users (see Section 6). Pro users see no ads.

3. The Overlay and Your Screen Content

ScribbleMate uses Android's "Display over other apps" permission (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) to show a transparent drawing surface on top of whatever you are viewing.

We only ever draw. The overlay paints your strokes on top of the screen. ScribbleMate has no ability to see, read, or record the content of the apps beneath it.
The overlay stays off until you summon it and can be turned off at any time.
The only time any part of your screen is read is when you explicitly tap the capture button — see Section 4.

4. Screen Capture

ScribbleMate includes an optional screenshot feature that flattens your drawing together with the screen behind it into a single image.

Capture happens only when you actively trigger it using the capture control. Nothing is recorded in the background.
Each capture session uses Android's standard MediaProjection flow, which shows you a system confirmation before any frame is read.
The resulting image is processed entirely on your device and saved to your device's gallery (MediaStore). It is never uploaded to us.
A captured image leaves your device only if you share it through Android's share sheet to an app of your choosing.

5. Information Stored On Your Device

The following data is created and stored only in ScribbleMate's private app storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us:

Boards and drawings — your strokes, shapes, text annotations, colours, layers, and canvas settings.
Board thumbnails — small preview images of your saved boards.
App preferences — tool toggles (undo/redo/visibility), shake-to-toggle, haptics, theme, and similar behaviour settings.
Purchase state — a local record of whether you have unlocked Pro (the purchase itself is handled by Google Play — see Section 7).

This data is removed when you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage. Captured images you have saved to your gallery remain there until you delete them.

6. Advertising Data (Google AdMob)

ScribbleMate is free and supported by advertising for users who have not purchased Pro. We use Google AdMob (Google LLC) to display banner, interstitial, and app-open advertisements. To serve ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process:

Device advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID)
IP address and approximate, coarse location derived from it
Device information (model, operating system version, language)
Ad interaction and usage signals

This is the only data collected from your use of ScribbleMate that leaves your device. No ads are ever shown over the drawing overlay, and Pro users see no ads at all. AdMob's handling of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

Where required by law (for example, under the GDPR), ScribbleMate uses Google's User Messaging Platform to request your consent before serving personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time; if you decline personalised ads, you may still see non-personalised ads.

Resetting or limiting ad tracking

You can reset your Advertising ID or opt out of ad personalisation at any time via your device settings: Settings → Google → Ads.

7. Purchases (Google Play Billing)

ScribbleMate offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock Pro. Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing.

We never receive or store your payment details (card number, billing address, etc.). Payment is handled by Google.
We receive only the information needed to confirm that a purchase was made and to unlock Pro on your device.
Your purchase entitlement is verified through, and managed by, your Google account and the Google Play Store.

Google's handling of payment data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

8. Data We Do NOT Collect

ScribbleMate is explicitly designed so that:

We cannot see the content of your screen beneath the overlay.
We do not collect your boards, drawings, or captured images. They never leave your device unless you share them yourself.
We do not require or collect an email address, name, or password.
We do not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
We do not collect or store payment information.
We do not sell your personal data.

9. Sharing Your Data

Because your boards and captures never leave your device, there is nothing for us to share. Data sharing is limited to:

Google LLC (AdMob) — receives the advertising signals described in Section 6 to serve and measure ads to free users.
Google LLC (Google Play Billing) — processes your purchase if you choose to buy Pro.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law or valid legal process — but this can only ever concern the limited data above, as we hold no other data about you.

We do not retain any of your data on our own servers.

11. Your Rights

Because ScribbleMate stores your data locally, you are in full control: you can edit or delete any board at any time, and clearing the app's storage or uninstalling removes all of it permanently.

India — Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP)

In accordance with India's DPDP Act, you have the right to access, correct, and erase your personal data. For the on-device data, you can do this directly in the app. For advertising data held by Google, please use the controls in Section 6 or contact us at the email below.

European Users (GDPR)

If you access the Service from within the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights to access, rectification, erasure, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You may also withdraw advertising consent at any time (see Section 6).

12. Data Security

Your boards and settings are kept in your device's private app storage, isolated from other apps by the Android operating system.
All advertising and billing network communication uses HTTPS/TLS.
Because your boards never leave your device, they are not exposed to server-side breaches.

13. Children's Privacy

ScribbleMate is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Advertisements are served in accordance with Google AdMob's policies. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the ad network, please contact us.

14. Permissions We Request

ScribbleMate uses your device's accelerometer for the optional shake-to-toggle gesture; this requires no special permission and the readings are used only on-device. We do not access your contacts, microphone, or precise location.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do:

The "Last updated" date at the top will change.
For significant changes, we will notify you via an in-app notice where appropriate.

Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
