Privacy Policy for Silent Whisper

This Privacy Policy describes how Silent Whisper ("We", "Us", "Our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our application and services. By using Silent Whisper, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Interpretation and Definitions

Account — A registered account created to access Silent Whisper.
Application — The Silent Whisper mobile application.
Company — Silent Whisper (operated by an individual developer based in India).
Device — Any device used to access the Service (phone, computer, tablet).
Personal Data — Any information that identifies or could identify you.
Service — The Application and related backend services.
Sharing Link — A unique URL you generate to receive anonymous messages.
You — The individual using the Service.

2. Data We Collect

2.1 Account Data

When you register, we collect:

Email address
First and last name (optional)
Username (chosen by you)
Password (stored as a hashed value — never in plaintext)

When you sign in with Google, we additionally receive your Google profile name and email address via OAuth.

2.2 Messages

Messages sent to you via your Sharing Link are stored on our servers. Messages are encrypted by the sender before transmission; we store the encrypted ciphertext and are not able to read message content in plain text.

2.3 Sharing Link Metadata

When you create a Sharing Link, we record your IP address and User-Agent string at the time of creation. This information is retained for security and spam prevention purposes.

2.4 Device Tokens (Push Notifications)

If you enable push notifications, we store your Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token to deliver message and read-receipt notifications. This token is not used for advertising.

2.5 Usage and Analytics Data

We use Firebase Analytics (Google LLC) to collect anonymised usage data such as screens visited, features used, and app version. We use Google AdMob to display advertisements to free-tier users.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect to:

Deliver and store your encrypted messages.
Send push notifications for new messages and read receipts.
Prevent spam, abuse, and unauthorised access.
Improve the application and user experience via anonymised analytics.
Display advertisements to free-tier users via Google AdMob.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

4. Sharing Your Data

We share data only with the following parties:

Google LLC — for Firebase Authentication, Firebase Analytics, FCM push notifications, and AdMob advertising.
Law enforcement — when required by law or to protect against fraud and abuse.

5. Data Retention

Messages are retained until deleted by the recipient or until the account is deleted.
Account data is retained until you delete your account.
IP and User-Agent data for Sharing Links is retained for up to 12 months.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your personal data.
Correct inaccurate data.
Delete your account and associated data via Settings → Delete Account.
Withdraw consent for notifications at any time via device settings.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security practices including HTTPS/TLS for all communication, bcrypt hashing for passwords, and server-side encryption for stored data.

8. Children's Privacy

Silent Whisper is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has registered, we will delete their account immediately.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policies:

Firebase (Google LLC) — Authentication, Analytics, Cloud Messaging
Google AdMob (Google LLC) — In-app advertising for free-tier users

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
